Listen to the Wisdom of your Mind, Body, Spirit
Just as we would offer loving support to a dear friend in need, we comfort our soul when we turn compassion inward. We create a safe space for ourselves and in turn we have taken care of our loved ones. When we love ourselves we glow in the light of love and those around us experience love so that when we take care of ourselves we take care of loved ones.
When we hear and follow our innate wisdom, we give ourselves the love we need. I learned from an injury that love is so important and the love relationship we have with ourselves is the most important relationship we have and can, at times, be the most challenging.
These challenges can be difficult and may involve examining situations or ourselves from a deeper perspective however in speaking loving words to ourselves we create an inner and outer environment of love and respect.
Kristin Neff suggests we think of a time when we have listened to a friend who needed a supportive ear and remember how you responded to them and respond in the same loving way to yourself.
Speaking kindly to ourselves may seem foreign at times or all the time which can be a reflection of childhood memories and/or a reflection of our inner landscape. We deserve to speak kind words to ourselves and if it seems foreign please be patient with yourself and as you continue the practice usually becomes easier.
The act of having compassion and love for ourselves may be the most important discovery we make!
